TT 'BETTER THAN MEDICINE'
MANY people love the TT but it would be fair to say Ian Huntly is a true addict.
For he has been coming to the races every year since 1947.
He is so dedicated he has two websites all about the event and the only time he failed to come to the Island was last year when the races were cancelled.
Ian, who lives in Reading, Berkshire, is back this year despite health problems.
He claimed: ‘My time in the Isle of Man is far better than all the tablets the doctor has prescribed me.’
Ian first became hooked on the TT when he was just seven-years-old when he came to the Island with his dad Harry and his mum Lily.
His wife of more than 30 years, Carole has also visited the Island in the 60' and 70's, although these days he makes the journey by himself.
Ian’s devotion is celebrated in an article on the iomtt.com website. In it he writes: ‘Frankly it is no holiday but it is a great chance to forget all the problems left back on the mainland. Early morning practices, trips round the course with riders and fans and even later nights extend the whole body and all one can experience is a feeling of elation as the TT unfolds.
‘I get invites to a wealth of functions and do the rounds. I spend time “doing a bit” with Radio TT and take new TT “virgins” out to places to watch the racing. I enjoy seeing the TT again through their eyes and I do my best to explain everything about the event.’
He loves making new friends at the TT and has admired the greats over the years such as Joey Dunlop and Mike Hailwood but said: ‘I update my websites as I go along and I try to bring into the picture the “also-rans” on which the TT depends’.
Rest assured, Ian will be once again absorbing himself in this year’s event which promises to feature some great competitive racing around the Mountain Circuit.
